Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides
The horse-drawn carriages of Sintra are one of the classic features of the romantic town.
They are reminiscent of past times when kings, noblemen and the rich bourgeoisie strolled through those parts. In a place filled with references to nobility, enjoying a horse-drawn carriage ride in Sintra as a modern-day aristocrat becomes rather tempting.
-
Tram Ride
The Sintra Tram is a classic feature in the region.
At first the train, which became operational in 1904, provided a much-needed service between the town and Praia das Maçãs. Later, as a result of improvements in communications and individual transportation, it was abandoned.
Today it operates as a tourist attraction and still links the town with Praia das Maçãs.
It is a 13 km journey that takes approximately 45 minutes through vegetation which provides some much appreciated shade. Plane trees, vines and orchards impart some coolness to the journey.
The carriages are either open or closed but they are all red and the journey is bound to take you back to a bygone era.

Parking
There are zones in the Town of Sintra where payment is required in order to park your vehicle on public roads. These zones are duly signposted. In order to validate your parking, you should acquire the respective ticket from parking meters. Payment can be made with 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.50, 1.00 and 2.00 coins. The meters do not give change, for which reason the total amount inserted is converted into parking time.
You can also use the Portela de Sintra 24 Hour car park. This park is connected to bus and train services. The maximum fare / day is 1.50 (including VAT)
Portela de Sintra Park GPS Coordinates are: 38°48'9.12"N / 9°22'27.53"W
